In this short video RailView captures the return of a diesel legend, Class 37/9 37901 Mirrlees Pioneer, the sole surviving Mirrlees engined Class 37 for the first time in over 20 years.
The video begins at Tapton which is just north of Chesterfield Station and sees 37901 Mirrlees Pioneer dragging 37510 Orion and powering away from Chesterfield Station after crossing over from the Midland Mainline to the Erewash Valley Line.
One hour later we capture Slug 1 once again, this time through Chesterfield Station where the 37/9 is seen roaring through with a two-tone horn and her unique engine sounding incredible.
A thank you has to go out to the driver for putting on a fantastic show especially as this was our first time seeing her too – we look forward to capturing more of this noisy beast in future!
