Dwight Yoakam's "A Thousand Miles From Nowhere" comes to mind with this image. Out in the exquisite solitude of the Nebraska Sandhills, along Route 2 where drivers in the occasional passing vehicle always wave and many wear cowboy hats as a matter of habit rather than affectation, it is business as usual on BNSF's Sandhills Sub as a westbound set of empties plies the vast distances past sand dunes, aquifer fed lakes and cattle ranches.
