The Flying Scotsman making it's way through the Australian outback to Alice Springs, 1988.


It’s on this trip that Scotsman set the world record for longest no stop run by a steam engine, 442 miles or 711km. Note the two extra water tanks it’s towing to allow it to do this. It also became the only engine to circumnavigate the globe.
