Looks like the 9336 ran into a pickup truck with a can of green paint in the bed. Soon Extra 8350 East (train WCPBY) came hustling by with mid-train radio controlled helpers.

After the eastbound train goes by, the dispatcher lines Extra 9336 West through the crossover and give him the green signal to proceed. Disk 55

I think John was riding the Sunset Limited on this trip. It was scheduled by Dome at 617PM in 1939. If he was making the trip around 1948, he was probably on the Golden State as it was due by Dome at 709PM. The Sunset Limited ran an hour and a half later then. Dome is the western end of 16 miles of double track between there and Wellton. In 1939, Dome had a 93 car length center siding. John Barriger picture.
